Brian Banion, baritone in the role of
Escamillo. Mr. Banion has appeared frequently with the Kentucky Opera,
the Greensboro Opera, and the Nevada Opera, among others. He has won awards
in several important vocal competitions, including the Metropolitan Opera
Auditions and was twice a finalist in the Jensen Foundation awards.
Natalie Choquette, soprano in the role
of Butterfly and the role of Helmwige. Ms. Choquette launched her operatic
career with the Montréal Opera, has performed for Queen Elizabeth
II, participated in recordings of Andrew Lloyd Weber’s Requiem
with the Geneva Chamber Orchestra and Missa Alba with the Montreux Orchestra.
Ms. Choquette is also known for her operatic comedy production, De
Vigneault à Mozart, which earned two prestigious Félix
nominations.
Gregory Dahl, baritone in the role of
Figaro, the barber. Mr. Dahl has most recently been acclaimed for his
performance in the historic premiere of Filumena with the Calgary
Opera in Calgary, Alberta. He has been hailed by Opera Canada
as “an expressive singer blessed with a rich, bold voice.”
Tracy Dahl, coloratura-soprano in the
role of Olympia. Ms. Dahl has performed with the Metropolitan Opera, the
San Francisco Opera, the Canadian Opera Company, among others. She made
her debut in San Francisco as Olympia opposite Placido Domingo. The
Boston Herald praised “her extreme high notes” as
“both easy and spectacular.”
Aline Kutan, soprano in the role of the
Queen of the Night. Ms. Kutan is a Canadian-Armenian soprano with an international
career on the world-renowned stages of Europe and North America. She is
best known for her role as the Queen of the Night with the New York City
Opera, l’Opéra d’Avignon and Tours, Badisches Staatstheater
Karlsruhe in Germany, Quebec City Opera and Opera Valencia in Spain.
Suzie LeBlanc, soprano in the role of
Papagena. Ms. LeBlanc is an early music specialist who has enjoyed a rich
international career performing in concerts throughout Europe, North America
and Japan, in repertoire ranging from lute songs to chamber music, from
oratorio to early opera.
Daniel Lichti, baritone in the role of
Papageno. Mr. Lichti is one of Canada’s finest concert and oratorio
singers and a frequent guest soloist with international symphonic, choral
and concert organizations. He has performed throughout North America,
Europe, Japan and Argentina.
Allan Monk, baritone in the role of Figaro.
Mr. Monk is one of the most respected baritones on the operatic stage,
noted for his in-depth interpretations of a wide variety of roles in both
standard and contemporary repertoire. Mr. Monk has also appeared in a
number of opera films and is an Officer of the Order of Canada.
Lambroula Maria Pappas, soprano in the
role of Gilda. Ms. Pappas is a winner of the Julian Gayarre International
Competition (Spain), a national semi-finalist of the 2002 Metropolitan
National Council Auditions (New York), winner of the Verviers International
Competition (Belgium) and a member of the young apprenticeship program
with l’Opéra de Montréal.
Michael Schade, tenor in the role of
the Duke of Mantua. Mr. Schade is internationally acclaimed as one of
the leading Mozart tenors on the stage today, performing regularly in
many of the great opera houses of the world, including the Vienna Staatsoper,
Salzburg Festival, Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, l’Opéra
de Paris, San Francisco Opera, Hamburg State Opera, the Lyric Opera of
Chicago and the Los Angeles Opera.
Jean Stilwell, mezzo-soprano in the role
of Carmen. Ms. Stilwell, hailed on three continents for her complex portrayal
of Carmen, is at the forefront of this generation’s mezzo-sopranos.
Since first assuming the role in Vancouver, British Columbia, Ms. Stilwell
has appeared with the Buxton Festival, the New York City Opera, Welsh
National Opera, English National Opera, and every opera company in Canada.
Daniel Taylor, countertenor in the role
of Xerxes. Mr. Taylor is the most recognized artist in his field, having
performed at many of the world’s most famous opera houses, including
the Metropolitan Opera, Rome Opera, San Francisco Opera and Glyndebourne.
He has recorded more than 50 discs and regularly receives invitations
from the world’s leading early and contemporary music ensembles
in New York, Beijing, San Francisco, Rome and London.
Erin Thrall, mezzo-soprano in the role
of Cherubino. Ms. Thrall has performed at major festivals and as a soloist
with the Montréal Symphony Orchestra (Orchestre Symphonique de
Montréal). She also performed the role of the Queen on The Children’s
Group’s recording, The Queen, The Bear & The Bumblebee.
